On July 1st, 2026, Mark Carney, the Prime Minister of Canada, joined over 10,000 of his constituents at the Barrhaven West Community Association's 44th annual Canada Day Festival celebrations in Clarke Fields Park in his riding of Nepean, Ontario.
The Department of Canadian Heritage provided approximately $20,000 in federal funding to the Barrhaven Canada Day event. This investment comes after Prime Minister Carney's government committed $20 million over four years for the Celebration and Commemoration Program to support Canada Day celebrations nationwide; $21 million over three years for the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage Program to fund local festivals, community anniversaries, and heritage projects; and $46.5 million over three years for the Canada Arts Presentation Fund to support arts festivals and cultural events across the country.

Accompanied by his spouse, Madame Diana Fox Carney, the Prime Minister welcomed Nepean residents, volunteers, and organisations at the festival. He served cupcakes prepared by local women-owned bakeries and breakfast alongside volunteers from the Barrhaven Legion to constituents, while taking time to greet families and thank many community members who made the celebration possible.
The Prime Minister reflected on the importance of Canada Day as an opportunity to recognise the country's shared values and leadership globally. “Today we celebrate each other,” said Prime Minister Carney. “Coming together to stand with each other in difficult times, whether it's forest floods, Buying Canadian, working with Canadians, cheering for great Canadian teams—it's fantastic.”
Throughout the day, the Prime Minister visited dozens of community booths, speaking with representatives from Pinhey's Point Historic Site, Waterford Grand Retirement Living Centre, the Barrhaven Seniors' Council, the Free Lions Club, Mattamy Homes' Nepean office, the Barrhaven West Community Association, and many other local organisations.
He also spoke with Member of Provincial Parliament Tyler Watt, Mayor of Ottawa Mark Sutcliffe, Councillor Wilson Lo (Ward 24 – Barrhaven East), and Councillor David Hill (Ward 3 – Barrhaven West) regarding Nepean's developments, recent activities, and collaborations with federal departments.

The Prime Minister's Constituency Office also welcomed residents at its community booth, where attendees received information about federal services and programs, along with Canada Day souvenirs including mugs, baseball caps, umbrellas, water bottles, colouring books, pins, pens, sunglasses, and other merchandise.
The two-day celebration featured its annual Country Music Fest showcasing local and national artists, as well as a classic car show, line dancing lessons, yoga and Zumba classes, and a rock music performance.

Alongside its broader investments for promoting Canada Day activities, Canadian Heritage provides annual grants through its Celebrate Canada program to hundreds of organisations, municipalities, Indigenous communities, and non-profit organisations to deliver free public events for Canada Day, National Indigenous Peoples Day, Canadian Multiculturalism Day, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, and National Acadian Day.
The annual Barrhaven Canada Day Festival, which began soon after the Barrhaven West Community Association's formation in the late 19070's, remains one of Nepean's largest community celebrations, bringing together residents of all ages to celebrate Canadian identity, recognise local volunteers and organisations, and strengthen the sense of community that defines the riding.
