Prime Minister Carney Announces 118 New Non-Profit Affordable Family Homes in Nepean

Prime Minister Mark Carney officially launched Build Canada Homes (BCH), a new federal agency aimed at accelerating housing construction across Canada. As part of its operations, it will build 3,000 new affordable and community homes for low-income households in Ottawa.

To this end, on April 23rd, 2026, the Prime Minister announced alongside federal, provincial, and municipal colleagues that BCH has approved eight affordable housing projects that will deliver over 1,100 new rental homes in Ottawa—exceeding initial targets by nearly 10%.

He announced that this includes the development of Geyser Place in Barrhaven, which will serve as a key site for 118 new non-profit affordable family homes in Nepean, the Prime Minister's riding.

All projects under this agreement will prioritise modern methods of construction and follow a Buy Canadian approach, where possible, to strengthen local supply chains, support Canadian materials, and speed up delivery. The projects are led by a range of partners, including non-profit housing providers and community organisations.
