MP Mark Carney Hosts Grade 5 Students from Nepean on Parliament Hill

Prime Minister Mark Carney hosted 102 students from his riding's Chapman Mills Public School on Parliament Hill to attend Question Period and ask him questions about governance and Canadian politics. He met and spoke with Grade 5 students from the school, and answered questions on Canada’s current challenges and opportunities, what his work as Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Nepean entailed, and how youth can get involved in serving their communities. He also spoke to the students about Canada's leadership in the world and its strategic advantage in various areas, and how youth are reflective of Canada's future and prosperity.

The students also received from the Prime Minister's Constituency Office copies of Our Country, Our Parliament: An Introduction to Democracy and Government in Canada. The books were prepared by the Library of Parliament to support young Canadians in learning about Parliament.

The students observed Question Period in the House of Commons, during which Members of Parliament engaged in debate, and toured several areas of Parliament Hill. They also viewed live demonstrations related to topics covered in their Social Studies classes, including how Members of Parliament vote on legislation and their parliamentary responsibilities.
