On March 8, 2026, the Rt. Hon. Mark Carney’s Constituency Office hosted International Women’s Day gathering at the Stonebridge Golf and Country Club in Nepean. The event recognized the contributions of women in the local community and across Canada.
The program featured a range of speakers whose work spans public policy, economics, and public service. Diana Fox Carney, an economist and climate policy expert, spoke on girls’ leadership, Nepean’s history, and inclusive economic growth.
She was joined by Members of Parliament from the National Capital Region, including the Hon. Mona Fortier (Former Minister and MP for Ottawa–Vanier–Gloucester), Sophie Chatel (MP for Pontiac—Kitigan Zibi and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri‑Food), Marie‑France Lalonde (MP for Orléans), and Giovanna Mingarelli (MP for Prescott–Russell–Cumberland). Speakers shared reflections on leadership, public service, and efforts to advance gender equality in Canada.
Throughout the afternoon, attendees engaged in thoughtful discussions about the challenges women continue to face, as well as the opportunities to build a more inclusive and equitable future. The event also highlighted the vital role of local women leaders and entrepreneurs in strengthening Nepean’s vibrant community.
Bringing together women parliamentarians, community leaders, and entrepreneurs, the event created a meaningful space to reflect on progress, share experiences, and inspire future action. This year’s celebration in Nepean aligned with the United Nations theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls,” and the powerful message, “When Women Thrive, We All Gain.”
